Feel Good Foodies slide presentation + surprise was a fascinating discussion!

•Taste the future with low-carbon-e recipes & dinners •Take on fun 14-day challenges  •Support our Climate Action course progress.  Tues 16 Sept. 11am – 12 noon Pittwater Aquatic Club upstairs, in Mona Vale, NSW. An interested group heard all about new Foodie events, local and global.

7 enjoyed the first ‘Feel Good Foodies’ lunch & a then Dinner in October

at Gay’s place with a lovely Spinach quiche, a Chilean Bean Stew, a super salad & Kumera Dahl. Wine and water were the lower-carbon-emission drinks of the day. A short time was spent covering the Lower Carbon emission aspects including a graph of CO2-e per kilo of food which clearly shows the major contributors. Lower Carbon Emissions Food can be scaled up. From this simple idea, significant carbon savings can be achieved.

Soon we’ll organise another ‘FGF lunch or dinner event’ to help complete our course and confirm the ideas are valid and worth replicating. We appreciate everyone’s interest so far https://srd.org.au/public-updates for more data.

‘SRD ‘S.TEAM’ Progress in Aug 2025

We are growing Community support & awareness of this developing program. Drop us a line to be included  srd@srd.org.au

Stage 3 Assignment:

Our short-term Micro goals are to: Get three others to share their favourite Feel Good Low Carbon-e Recipes (√ Done). Host three groups to share in ‘Feel Good Foodies’ Low-Carbon-e, low-waste dinner parties (first one scheduled). Get 12 others to complete a 14-day Feel Good Recipes challenge.
Our 18-month goal is to create a valued web resource featuring free Low Carbon-e Recipes, Nutritional data and Zero Waste tips, with an International cookbook of Low Carbon-e Recipes. We plan to prove the Dinner parties concept locally and through farmers markets, then export it nationally and internationally, leveraging input from Influencers and politicians to foster a forward-positive outlook. The plan is to achieve significant behavioural, Carbon-e, and Waste savings, while also promoting healthy, learning, and social sharing fun.

Our developing Projects. The first four are well in progress. Pick your favourite & consider sending us options to enhance it.

* ‘Low Carbon-e Recipes‘ a response to Climate our Cookbook is in progress. It will include some global recipes. NB. Please send us your favourite recipes that you believe are Low-Carbon candidates. So featuring local produce, seasonal veges, interesting, satisfying healthy meal options. We need a paragraph to explain why you think it is ‘Low Carbon’ and a good photo too. It needs to be original or a variation to ensure we have IP. CherylC is starting off with her ‘Simply Satisfying Kumera Dahl’ recipe, it’s sustaining, vegan, tasty, healthy & filling. Goal of 24 recipes to communicate good low carbon food options. Make Saleable to benefit Charity. Helps our wonderful community with ‘Feel Good’ food ideas.

* Judy’s Better Bee Hotel. Charlie Kent, suggested the name ‘Air Bee & Bee’, love it. A timber version will soon bee available for schools & homes. Will promote to all community. Design & create samples to test in different areas. SelenaG is a good knowledge source. Then organise makers from community & or mens sheds. Locally made ones are purpose built & Not fumigated. Explore options to Sell in outlets. These are nearly available for public too.

* Anti-Plastics action groups. Barbara Elkan et al with Mackellar Plastics Action Group are already active, we are advancing numbers to quantify goals and best direction to reduce plastic bags in supermarkets. Explore re-use options and promote soft-plastic recycling, its processes and products. Advancing well with supermarkets encouraging reusable fruit & veg. bag usage. ‘Curby’ usage is increasing locally to get more Soft Plastics back into recycling programs.

* Electrify Life Sparks teams (sharing experiences of Apps & processes to electrify our world)  GraemeJ has already take the initiative for this delightfully current subject now with ’S.TEAM’ support. Progressing on Numbers to quantify goals and Testemonials. Go Solar groups are growing their meetings & membership.

* Zero Waste teams (food, general & repair & Extended Producer Responsibility ‘EPR’). An SRD exec. has just completed a 130 page report for SA, summary soon.
GregC to email CRC to see how to integrate with current Food Waste programs [   ]. Incorporating this into Low Carbon Recipes food program.

* Explore how to get some Corporate or Government interest (in any of the above) were a few other ideas.  Looking for someone to take the initiative for this BIG subject or GregC to explore a new SRD Change National project to aim for $40k funding for a small Curator/Management team

* Review of recent Climate School projects. Perhaps links for journalists type short course on fact-checking to help reduce the effect of misinformation & dis-information.

* Low carbon transport (walking, swimming, cycling, scooters, e-scooters, ebikes, buses, EVs) Looking for someone to take the initiative for this fascinating subject or GregC. Janus?

* Consider writing up projects of success in Climate concepts to better or reproduce. *SuzanF may be able to write up process of successful lobbying for Body Corporate to go PV & EV charging, tbc.

* SRD interested in more ways to assist meeting the 30% by 2030 Oceans Reserves. Watch 2025 David Attenborough ‘Oceans’ documentary movie.

* GC / SRD Looking for ways to assist reducing Logging in Australia by 70% before 2030

📣 *Can we Reverse Climate Change by 2030?

Australia’s SRD charity asked to pen Journal Chapter on Climate Action;
your input invited.

After our conference paper series advancing sustainability, ISDRS.org asked us to submit a Chapter for new Routledge Journals on UN SDG progress. Most people know the SDGs are grossly under-achieving, so the Chapter Title asks the provocative question(*): This asks the important ensuing questions; “If Not, by when?”, “Does anybody know by when?” and, to respond best, “How may we best resolve the closely related issues, especially as time is running out?” plus “Where are the best current ideas for achieving this?”

You are invited to contribute a paragraph (or 2) for this Journal to enable real Climate Action by 2030. We must share the keys to change perceptions that it can’t be done. Many say it has to be done. Governments show they’re not up to the task alone.

We already have several great responses from published authors and experts in different fields, from Energy to Consumerism and Built Environment. Getting to the heart of answering how we may advance the urgent issues. The well-received brief: https://bit.ly/CCby2030_SDG-Journal-Chapter-draft
The original reference paper: https://bit.ly/RenewSDGsViaResponsibleLivingEconomy You need to be well-considered and to the point about how the world needs to change. Your input  is requested.  srd@srd.org.au

SRD is officially recognised as a full charity. Well done everyone!
In early 2023, the recognition of progress over many years. An independent, membership based, volunteer run, Australian NotForProfit with members and connections in most states and territories has now become a registered ACNC charity. This will enable us to further grow the value of education, culture and benefits for Responsible Design thinking and practice. Thanks SRD members. This welcome news will give SRD further credibility and a better position to apply for grants, conduct events and pursue a wider range of projects. We’ve initiated & supported many so far. 2023 SRD Charity
